Pitch, gauge and drive links explained
These are the three measurements you will see most often when matching a replacement chainsaw chain.
Chain Pitch
Pitch relates to the spacing of the chain's rivets and must correspond with the saw's drive sprocket and bar setup. Common chainsaw pitches include 1/4", .325", 3/8" low profile and 3/8".
Chain Gauge
Gauge is the thickness of the drive link where it runs inside the guide-bar groove. The chain gauge must correctly match the bar groove.
Drive Link Count
Drive-link count determines the physical loop length. Two chains can share the same pitch and gauge but still be the wrong length if the drive-link count differs.
